Zero’s All Around

November 1, 2009

After another 110 minute game in Chicago, we drew 0-0 with Valpo last night. Both teams saw chances go by, with the best coming from Ivan in OT hitting the crossbar on a free kick just outside the box. The game was moved to Saturday after heavy rain-soaked the field and left it unplayable. The temperatures are starting to drop and that means NCAA’s are right around the corner. We have to pick it up if we want to make a run like ’07 and ’08.

October 25, 2009

An absolutely huge win for us tonight at Loyola. Both teams came out with derby like mentality and the atmosphere got heated as the fans started to arrive. Loyola struck first on a goal that was more luck than anything. Giffin had a mis-clearance go right to Jones of Loyola who tucked it into the upper 90 with a ridiculous bicycle kick. We had a bunch of opportunities go begging in the first and second half, until Stoll got through and the keeper took him out. Ivan slotted home a PK with about four minutes left in regulation. As we headed into OT we knew this was our chance to kill off any hope Loyola had at making the tournament. We had won before in OT on their field and that is exactly what we did in the second overtime. Ian played a ball to Mitchell who looped one over the top to Charlie running down the wing. Charlie whipped in a great ball that Stoll slid home to put it away. We went nuts, and deservedly so, up next is Valpo on the weekend.

Bore Draw

October 25, 2009

Our game Tuesday night vs Western Illinois wasn’t the most exciting game we have ever been a part of. We got out of it with a draw. In a game that saw neither team have any really good chances the match ended 0-0. Massive match for us on Saturday night @ Loyola!!

Big W at OSU

October 15, 2009

Big win tonight for us on the road at Ohio State. We were a depleted squad but it goes to show everyone that we are deep enough to take this thing well into November and make a run in the NCAAs. Phil Mitchell got the goal off of a cross from Mike Giffin. In other news, Zach got hurt on what was listed as a vicious tackle that resulted in the OSU player being sent off. Zach was taken to the hospital but that is all we know for now. Next up, UWM on Saturday night @ 7 on Flames Field. Keep this thing going.

OT in Cold Green Bay

October 12, 2009

Green Bay was freezing last night, the temperature dropped well into the 30’s but it didn’t stop us from getting off to a hot start. Phil Mitchell drew a PK for us only 3 minutes in which Kevin Stoll hammered in for his second goal in two games. Green Bay got the score level after a mis-clearance led to a free shot well within our box. We went up again in the second half after Stolly scored his 3rd goal in two games on another rebound scramble type play. They got even again, this time to send it into overtime on a set pieceĀ  which may or may not have been hand balled before the shot was taken. Nonetheless we went into overtime, shortly into the second OT they hit a shot from just inside the D low to the near post that just got by a fully stretched Jovan. It was a tough one to lose. We still can host the tournament if things go our way and we get on a winning streak. Off to Ohio State Wednesday.

Tough 1 against #1

October 12, 2009

Akron really is the best team in the country and they proved that to us the other night. In a game that was tight going into halftime on the scoreboard, the second half proved otherwise. Akron took the lead on a bomb of a goal and then put another away not too long after to go up 2-0. Kevin Stoll drew one back with a rebound scramble header. Akron put it out of reach when their forward got through one on one with Jovan and slotted it home. It was a tough night for us but hopefully we took a lot away from the game.

Make His A Triple!!

October 3, 2009

Serbian Freshman, Ivan Stanisavljevic came to the rescue tonight. On a rainy and cold night in downtown Chicago, Ivan scored a hat trick as we beat Wright State 3-1. Two of Ivan’s goals came on almost identical free kicks at opposite ends of the field. The game was a big one for us and we got huge points as we continue in the Horizon League. Up next, Akron, they are being touted as the most exciting team in the country scoring 23 goals and only allowing 1 in 8 games. Akron makes the trip to Flames Field on Wednesday night.
